L’oeuvre en élaboration : de quelques « mots-ciment » de Senghor dans le « Cahier de Verson »

Résumé

Partant de l’analyse de deux poèmes figurant dans le « Cahier de Verson », document sans date regroupant trente-trois poèmes manuscrits de Senghor, cet article se propose de mettre en évidence un lexique récurrent, présent dans les oeuvres antérieures (Chants d’ombre et Hosties noires) comme dans les textes ultérieurs. Tels des « mots-ciment » (Senghor) ou des « mots-accoucheurs » (Makhily Gassama) autour desquels s’amorce le rythme du poème, ces vocables configurent les champs lexico-sémantiques si caractéristiques de la poésie senghorienne : ceux de l’amour et de l’amitié, du pays natal et de ses cultures ancestrales, ou des morts en dialogue avec les vivants.

Abstract

Starting from the analysis of two poems appearing in the « Cahier de Verson », an undated document bringing together thirty-three of Senghor’s handwritten poems, this article aims to highlight a recurrent lexicon, present in the earlier works (Chants d’ombre and Hosties noires) as well as in the later texts. Like "cement-words" (Senghor) or "midwife-words" (Makhily Gassama) around which the rhythm of the poem begins, these words configure the lexico-semantic fields so characteristic of Senghor’s poetry: those of love and friendship, of the native country and its ancestral cultures, or of the dead in dialogue with the living.
