Résumé

On observe un mouvement d’intégration des fichiers de données numériques aux collections des bibliothèques universitaires au même titre que les données bibliographiques et textuelles. L’auteur décrit ce mouvement dans les bibliothèques nord-américaines et québécoises. Il fait état des défis que présente l’exploitation de ces données et des pressions extérieures qui inciteront les bibliothèques à offrir de nouveaux services aux chercheurs. Il énumère les facteurs qui favoriseront cette intégration et invite les bibliothécaires à une coopération d’abord axée sur la formation puis sur d’autres formes de collaboration. En complément, suit une bibliographie annotée.

Abstract

There is a movement under way to integrate numeric data bases to library collections along with bibliographic and full text records. The author describes the trend in libraries in North America and Québec. The challenges of using such material and external pressures on libraries to offer new services are also described. The author outlines the advantages of numeric data bases and calls on librarians to cooperate through continuing education, followed by other forms of cooperation. An annotated bibliography is appended.

Resumen

Podemos observar un movimiento de integración de los ficheros de datos numéricos con las colecciones de las bibliotecas universitarias de la misma manera que los datos bibliográficos y textuales. El autor describe este movimiento en las bibliotecas norteamericanas y quebequenses. Trata de los desafíos que présenta la explotación de estos datos y de las presiones exteriores que incitaron a las bibliotecas a ofrecer nuevos servicios a los investigadores. Enumera los factores que favorecieron esta integración e invita a los bibliotecarios a una cooperación orientada hacia la formación y también a otros tipos de colaboración. Una bibliografía anotada completa el artículo.
