On October 14, 2012, the Montreal-based opera company, Opera da Camera gave a concert – one of particular interest to the editorial staff at CuiZine, called Ah Quel Diner : un concert de délices musicaux!
The following interview, or conversation rather, between Managing Editor Alexia Moyer and members of the company, is an exploration of food, drink, and opera. You will also note that the members’ interest in such matters extends beyond the stage and into their kitchens.

Biographical note
Translated without embellishment from the Italian, Opera da Camera means chamber (Camera) work (Opera). A musical work in a chamber… in a room. More importantly, it is a work that promotes a sense of closeness, intimacy, a connection resonating directly between the audience and the musician. Since its inception in 2011, Opera da Camera has been excited to create concerts with an eclectic variety of programming, combining works of the classical and musical theatre genres. As part of its outreach vision, Opera da Camera also performs regularly in smaller venues and towns throughout Québec, bringing music to audiences that might otherwise be unable to enjoy the thrill of a live performance.

Traduit tel quel de l’Italien, Opera da Camera signifie oeuvre (Opera) de chambre (Camera). Une oeuvre musicale dans une chambre… dans une salle. Plus important encore, c’est une oeuvre qui promeut un sens de proximité et d’intimité, soit une connexion directe entre le public et le musicien. Depuis sa création en 2011, Opera da Camera est fier de créer des concerts réunissant à la fois musique classique et théâtre musical. La vision de la compagnie est de promouvoir le répertoire classique dans une atmosphère d’accessibilité tant en termes des lieux de concerts que des choix musicaux. Fidèle à sa vision communautaire, Opera da Camera se produit par ailleurs régulièrement dans de plus petites salles et villes à travers le Québec, faisant ainsi connaître la musique à des publics qui autrement ne seraient pas en mesure de vivre l’expérience enivrante d’un concert en direct.
