Compte tenu des caractéristiques de la perception et de la participation filmique, le documentaire peut avoir des effets radicalement opposés : il peut favoriser tous les « centrismes » (égocentrisme, sociocentrisme, ethno-centrisme); il peut aussi, dans certaines conditions, favoriser la décentration sociale. L’orientation de ces effets possibles dépend largement du type d’énonciation et de l’organisation des points de vue à l’intérieur du film.

Abstract

Depending on the characteristics of perception and of filmic participation, the documentary can have radically divergent effects. It can foster "centrisms" of all sorts — egocentrism, sociocentrism, ethnocentrism — or, under certain conditions, it can foster social decentering. How a film is oriented with respect to these effects depends primarily on the type of enunciation and the organization of points of view in the film.
