Plaidoyer de l’imaginaire pour une géographie humaniste

Résumé

Critique, la géographie humaniste s'articule auprès des sens et essences, et propose un nouveau projet de société certes emballant. Toutefois, elle doit composer avec des impératifs institutionnels et scientifiques qui restreignent ses libertés. Elle est de plus rongée par des obsessions d'identité et de récognition qui nuisent à sa démarche. Aussi, reprenant l'appel à l'imaginaire de Yi-Fu Tuan, nous l'avons examinée au moyen de la science-fiction afin de mieux saisir ses difficultés méthodologiques, ses préoccupations sociales et ses thèmes de recherche. Cognitive, critique, humaniste et libertaire, la science-fiction apparaît comme un adjuvant qui peut épurer la géographie humaine, et même la transcender.

Abstract

Critical, humanistic geography deals with senses and essences, and proposes a new society project which is certainly thrilling. However, it has to deal with institutional and scientific requirements that restrain its liberties. It is also undermined by some identity and recognition obsessions which are very much against its process. So, calling on the use of literary imagination developed by Yi-Fu Tuan, we had a close look at it, using science fiction in order to better understand its methodological difficulties, its social concerns and its research themes. Cognitive, critical, humanistic and libertarian, science fiction appears like a stimulant that can purge humanistic geography, and indeed transcent it.
