Tradition, modernité, territorialité

Résumé

La territorialité s'est toujours infiltrée dans le tissu quotidien des sociétés, traditionnelle ou moderne. Cependant, dans la société moderne, au contraire de la société traditionnelle, la quotidienneté rompt avec la tradition et dichotomise connaissances et pratiques. La modernité dans les sociétés occidentales dé-territorialise au détriment d'une information régulatrice qui est recherche d'une identité et d'un référentiel vrai et non plus imaginaire. L'Italie depuis la réunification du siècle dernier illustre bien ce dualisme, qui n'est pas opposition, entre tradition et modernité. Pourtant, plusieurs signes aujourd'hui présents témoignent du besoin de rechercher une modernité moins éthérée et qui fasse large place à des référentiels réels.

Abstract

Territoriality has always been an intrinsic element of society, whether traditional or modem. However, in modem society, contrary to what occurs in traditional society, the « quotidienneté » breaks with tradition and separates knowledge from practice. In westemized societies, modernity de-territorializes at the expense of a regulated information flow which is a search for an identity and for a real referent, rather than an imaginary one. Since the unification of a century ago, Italy provides a good illustration of this dualism, which is not opposition, between tradition and modernity. However, there are to-day several indications of a need to search for an identity that is less ethereal and that relies more on real referents.
