Maillardville : à l’Ouest rien de nouveau

Résumé

L'évolution de la communauté francophone de Maillardville met en cause l'approche fonctionnaliste utilisée dans l'étude des relations ethniques. La question ethnique ne peut se dissocier de la question des classes sociales. Certains concepts du matérialisme historique et dialectique, appropriés à l'analyse des rapports sociaux conflictuels, aident à renouveler les connaissances sur les francophones d'Amérique.

Abstract

A brief description of certain key aspects of the evolution of the French speaking community of Maillardville, B.C. leads to a critical appraisal of the functionalist approach to the "ethnic question". It is suggested that certain concepts of historical and dialectical materialism can shed a new light on the history of French speaking America.
