Abstract
Theatre criticism could be converted today to a polyvalent discourse which attempts to be open to performance events, as it receives experiences and meanings from the adjacent cognitive fields. The expansion of theatrical canon, its adaptation in the new cultural context, the reconstitution of the theatrical forms and the multifold decentralization of performances, as well as the separation of the arts in performing processes, are some of the most important factors which differentiate in large part, not only the performances themselves, but also their perception by the specialist audience.
Theatre criticism in modern Greece was, until recently, hardly studied at the universities as it was in the intellectual circles. The interpenetration of theatre actuality and scientific deontology by the theatre criticism can considerably improve the situation in the field of the perception of the performances and gradually discredit the sterile opposition that occurs sometimes between science, critical thought and artistic creation.
